WHAT IS THE LEGACY PROEJCT?
The Seamus Gee Legacy Project is a registered non-profit society that was founded in loving memory of Seamus Gee, a son who is loved and deeply missed. Seamus passed away unexpectedly in October 2019 at the age of 16, the Seamus Gee Legacy Project is dedicated to empowering youth and families in our community. Inspired by Seamus’ spirit and vision, we support programs that foster resilience, mental well-being, and opportunity.
What began as an effort to in honour of Seamus’ passion for hands on work and helping others we support youth pursuing a career in the trades, following the same path Seamus had chosen and it has grown into something much more. We have proudly partnered with organizations like Foundry Langley, HeadsUpGuys, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Langley Rugby Club, the Vancouver Giants and others.
Through the generosity of our supporters and a variety of fundraising initiatives, we now provide annual bursaries to help students enter the high school Youth Train in Trades program, as well as scholarships for trade students.
Beyond education, we are committed to supporting youth and families in meaningful, practical ways. We proudly support a youth program that helps young people aged 12–24 access mental health services, substance use support, primary care, peer support, social services, and life-skills programming. A Men’s Mental Health resource offering practical self-care tips, screening tools, self-guided courses, inspirational recovery stories, an international Therapist Directory, along with guidance on how to support the men in our lives.
In addition, we provide Christmas hampers to families in need and on Seamus’ Birthday each year we purchase birthday cakes for young children, ensuring moments of care, dignity, and celebration. There have also been a couple of community awards created in Seamus’ memory which honour local rugby player both at Seamus’ former middle school (HD Stafford) and former rugby club (Langley Rugby Club).
As our work continues to evolve, we are continually looking at new initiatives that we can get involved with wherever there is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by strengthening and uplifting our community.
Through continued fundraising and community support, we are committed to creating lasting, positive change carrying Seamus’ legacy forward by helping others grow, thrive, and build a brighter future.
